November 28- a visit to the AVAM

2009.11.28
Every year, the American Visionary Art Museum or AVAM, holds a Christmas arts and crafts fair called "Bazart"- I had a couple of friends selling stuff again this year, so I stopped down to say hello. I saw this minivan on the way there after I had parked my car.

The craft fair is held on the 3rd floor of one of the buildings (not the main one). On the ground floor, as you walk in, they have a collection of these whimsical hand animatronic figures. This guy eats spaghetti out of his bathtub.

"Flogging a dead horse" (The skeleton moves up and down)

After I took a photo of this elephant, the security guard made me put the camera away. In my own defence, I didn't see a sign in this particular building that said "no cameras." Sorry I couldn't get a snap of the 12' tall Divine statue. (annotated)

Cool mosiac egg outside.

Little garden with amazing wood structure to walk through.

The AVAM art bus.

Mosiac detail on the main building.

Look, it's Maggie Thatcher...

and Dubya! ;-)

enormo-whiligig at the AVAM. Federal Hill is just behind it. (where I took photos from the beginning of the week).

Giant whimsical chessboard.

(enlargable). Giant Biblical themed outsider art paintings over the chessboard on the barn building.

Giant bird and nest sculptures outside. If you ever get to Baltimore, you should visit the AVAM, it's really an offbeat gem.
